The Sandra Leach Company Representation, PR, Marketing

gill2Hello and welcome to our December Newsletter.

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that 2014 has flown past. WTM proved to be a great place to hit the ground running as I returned from maternity leave to my new role as MD of SLC. I was eager to find out what I had missed, and was encouraged with how positive the arrival numbers have been into many of the destinations, hotels and touring partners we work with. If I had to pick out two themes that seem to be top of the industry's agenda, it would be 1) Customer service – and how service can be tailored, personalised and individualised, even within the mass market and volume model. And 2) Technology – not just about selling online, but about how technology can enhance the customer booking experience from beginning to end both on and offline. I'm sure these are trends that we will hear a lot more about in 2015.
Congratulations to our clients who have won awards this month – including Rawnsley Park Station and Daydream Island Resort and Spa. And as we're gearing up for peak booking, do let us know if you require brochures, flyers, images or webinar training to help you SELL SELL SELL when January comes around. In the meantime, happy reading and from everyone here at SLC, have a great December.

DSC 1355Hello and welcome to our November Newsletter.

With WTM upon us once again it's hard to believe we're coming to the end of 2014 already – time really does fly!

This month I was lucky enough to lead my first ever famil trip, and what a great one to start with as I travelled with 8 agents from across the UK to Western Australia for a week-long trip. The agents were all winners from our roadshow events in the summer, and we flew with our airline partner from the roadshow, Qantas. After a very comfortable flight on board Qantas' A380 (which we were lucky enough to experience in both economy and business) we landed in the state capital Perth, which certainly lived up to its reputation of Australia's sunniest capital!

We spent a glorious day cycling around Rottnest Island, meeting friendly Quokka's and we even spotted a humpback whale on our ferry ride over from the mainland. Our second day was spent exploring central Perth and Fremantle where we got to see all the exciting developments happening at Elizabeth Quay, gorgeous wildflowers in King's Park and learn more about the maritime history in Fremantle after visiting a quirky local café for lunch.

A short flight took us further north to the gateway to the Kimberley region, and all-round stunning town of Broome. The turquoise waters of Cable Beach were an instant hit with the whole group, and the incredible sunsets we witnessed while we were there wowed us all every evening, whether we were watching from the back of a camel or the deck of an old pearl lugging boat. We learned lots about the pearling history of the town, as well as the aboriginal influences of the area, which are still prevalent today. A day trip up to the incredible Cape Leveque gave us a glimpse of the rich red landscape and 'last frontier' outback that the Kimberley is famous for. We all left itching to explore more, but alas our trip was over all too quickly.

Visit our Facebook page to see a few of the photos from the trip, and I will be conducting a webinar on the 28th of November at 2pm which will go into more detail on how you can sell Perth and Broome as a fantastic Western Australia package, as well as more information on the destination as a whole.
Elsewhere at SLC we've had a busy week at WTM with many of our clients coming over to London for the show. The whole team has and will be out and about over the next few weeks with pre- and post-WTM visits, as well as lots of training – we'll look forward to seeing many of you as we make our way around the UK!

We also welcomed a new client to the SLC fold this month in the form of Arabica Orient Tours, an Omani DMC. There's more information below, but please get in touch if you are interested in finding out more about working with us.

Until next month!

LouiseHello and welcome to our September Newsletter!

My name is Louise and I joined the SLC team just two weeks ago. I'll be the new PR and Promotions Manager and will mainly be working on the Tourism Western Australia and Louis Cruises accounts, covering Elen Thomas while she is on maternity leave.

I've had a busy couple of weeks learning the ropes but it's been great fun learning about the amazing destinations and clients SLC works with. During my time at SLC I will be based in-house at Tourism Western Australia - in their UK HQ on the Strand, although I'll be popping into the SLC offices in Wimbledon as often as I can! I'll be working closely with Christie and Clare, as well as Charlotte on the Louis Cruises account.

This last week has been a very exciting one at the Western Australia HQ. We have been working with our colleagues in Tourism Australia on the Restaurant Australia campaign which has culminated in a series of five one-night-only pop up restaurants (one of which was dedicated to Western Australia) which took place this week at Australia House. The menu on offer during Western Australia's night was inspired by Australian Rock n' Roll chef Matt Stone and was delicious!

Before my time at SLC, I spent three year's working in the PR team at Explore, an adventure travel company based in Hampshire. Explore offer small group tours in countries across the world, and before that, I was in the Communications Team at Hampshire County Council.

I am really looking forward to working with you all over the coming months!

Hello and welcome to our September Newsletter!

Logo 155Px-01As we wave goodbye to August (and what looks like the last of summer!) we say hello to what promises to be a busy September. The traditionally busy booking month of September for the UK market has seen some of our clients provide some great last minute discounts, freebies and offers to give exceptional value for those last minute late deals! You can get in touch with us to find out more on these and we wish you all a super September of sales ahead!

This month also sees us welcome our latest client, the brand new Keemala, Thailand.

Located in the rainforests of Phuket and offering an experience that promises to be ‘Beyond Enchanting’, the five star Keemala will boast 38 sumptuous pool cottages, houses and villas. Opening its doors to guests on 1st August 2015 Keemala is an all pool villa wonderland set in the woodlands of Kamala.

A proud member of Small Luxury Hotels, Keemala sits just a five minute drive from Kamala beach, its rainforest location providing a sanctuary for those who wish to rebalance, rejuvenate and relax. The perfect place for honeymooners, couples and guests wishing to get away from it all.

The strikingly designed accommodation, which has been shortlisted for the International Hotel and Property awards 2015, celebrates the culture of four ancient Phuket tribes and harnesses their methods & way of life and infuses it into the overall guest experience. The spa treatments, wellness programs, gastronomic choices, activities and magical accommodation all derive from the key attributes of the four tribes. A bar, market, boutique, gym and jungle walkway complete the offerings.

We’re really looking forward to working with Keemala and are delighted to announce that we will be joined by them in November for a UK sales mission. More information will follow very shortly but in the meantime if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me -

For now, I wish you a great month ahead and here’s hoping we’re blessed by that most welcomed phenomenon – the Indian summer.

Hello and welcome to our August Newsletter!

Clare and Kangaroo AnthonyIt’s hard to believe it’s August already, and I’m writing this having successfully completed the Tourism Western Australia Extraordinary Roadshow! The preparation required running four agent events, a product manager session, a webinar and a media workshop took a lot of hard work and preparation, but the end results were incredibly rewarding to see. All 12 of the Western Australia suppliers who joined us for the week long roadshow had very positive feedback, and we achieved our target number of attendees at almost every event, with London and Manchester having incredible turn outs. The highlights for me were getting to know the WA delegates and learning more about their fantastic regions and products, as well as having the opportunity to meet so many of the trade throughout the week; many of whom made a huge effort to talk to Christie, Elen, Mark and myself and thank us for the chance to come to the events. We hope that everyone who came enjoyed themselves and learned something new about Western Australia. I know there are now eight very excited agents out there who were lucky enough to win a place on a famil trip to WA later in the year who will get to experience some of the state first hand! I am certainly sharing in their excitement as it will be the first famil trip I have lead since joining the SLC team, and I can’t wait to revisit some of my favourite places in WA as we travel to Perth and Broome. More on that in November!

For now, I hope you’re all enjoying the summer and have a chance to relax and enjoy some sunshine at some point over the next few weeks.

Hello and welcome to our July newsletter

SLC team day outIt is hard to believe that we are already half way through 2014. Here at SLC, June was another busy month. At the beginning of the month we welcomed back Poppy, who has returned as an Account Executive having completing her University degree. Poppy received the fantastic news that she will receive a 1st Class honours Degree. Congratulations all round to Poppy! We also enjoyed a fantastic SLC team day out. Lee showed us all the highlights of East London around the newly reopened Olympic Park. (See picture attached of the team)

July has kicked off in style with the TWA roadshow visiting London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow last week. It was great to see many of you there and Clare will provide a full update next month. From the 01 July we are delighted to welcome a new client, The Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa in Bali. See below for further details. Mid-July will see Sandra and Charlotte heading off on a press and agent FAM trip to Greece with Louis Cruises. We will also bid a fond farewell to Anthony who completes his year placement with us and we thank him for all his hard work. We look forward to welcome Jaqueline Freakes who will be joining us for the next 12 months.

In May, I was lucky enough to attend ATM in Cairns and visit Daydream Island Resort and Spa. For the first time in ATE's 35 year history it was held outside of the major cities of Australia with Cairns hosting the event. As I am sure those of you that attended ATM this year will agree, this great city in far North Queensland was a beautiful place to host the event, with it's relaxed tropical environment. The event was a very well-run and well organised. Prior to ATE I visited Daydream Island Resort and Spa. The resort was looking fantastic and with its many restaurants, activities and bars, it is the perfect place to relax and unwind on any trip to Australia.

We hope you have a great July.

The SLC team

Hello and welcome to our June newsletter

Orientis Fam trip

Another month has come and gone and May was as busy as ever with trade shows, fam trips, in market visits and cruise conventions all being ticked off the list.

Christie, Mark and Sandra had a productive week at ATE in Cairns and saw many of you there I'm sure. We were also joined for in market visits by Danny Sukomol from Santhiya Resorts & Spas and Giancarlo Baltazzi from Karavan Travel which saw Charlotte and I out around the UK attending meetings and hosting training sessions.

May also saw the Orientis DMC fam trip to China in conjunction with Air China, and I was lucky enough to join for my second fam trip in as many months. The superb eight day itinerary laid on by Orientis started in fine style as we were given the VIP treatment by Air China – No.1 Lounge access at Gatwick Airport was followed by an upgrade to the excellent business class on their newly re-introduced London Gatwick to Beijing service. A smooth flight had us touching down in Beijing and we were ready to explore.

A busy two days saw us take in the sights and sounds of Beijing, a city with a wonderful mix of old and new, and on a scale that is exemplified by the stunning Great Wall. A true wonder of the world which had us enjoying magnificent views from the gondola ride to the top and a thrilling toboggan slide back to the bottom – the perfect way to cool off after exploring in the increasingly warm morning sun!

A two hour flight from Beijing had us touching down in Xian, a previous historical capital and known to the Chinese as the 'roots' of the country due to the deep history dating back thousands of years. Rich history is now intertwined with a bustling, modern city centre and of course a visit to Xian wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Terracotta Warriors – my personal favourite sight of the trip. Our morning walk along the ancient city wall come in a close second!

Shanghai was our last port of call and at just 150 years old it is wonderfully juxtaposed against the history of Xian. This characterised my view of the real appeal that China holds - the overwhelming contrast of old and new in each and every city. China really does have something for everyone and has so much to offer that it does need more than one visit. A truly wonderful trip!

June for SLC team will see us out and around the UK in training sessions and meetings, whilst the Tourism Western Australia team are putting the final preparations in place for the UK roadshow. Visiting London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, this four day tour of the UK provides you with the latest news and tools to assist you in selling the extraordinary state of WA. Visit for more details and to sign up.

Finally, June also sees us welcome Poppy Whitbread back to the team. Poppy has returned as an Account Executive following the completion of her University degree and you may recognise her from the year she spent with us previously as our Sales Co-ordinator on her placement year from university.

Until next month, the team and I wish you all a fantastic June ahead.

Hello and welcome to our May newsletter

CLare Intro MayIt's been another busy month here at The Sandra Leach Company - who can believe April is over already?! We kicked off with European Product Workshop, which was for the first time jointly held by Tourism Australia and Tourism New Zealand. It was a great two days of appointments with key European and UK Product Managers - Tourism Western Australia had three suppliers who are new to the UK/European markets (Crikey Campers, Sunmoon Boutique Resort and Silversea Expeditions), whilst Rawnsley Park Station showcased their fantastic new 'Flinders By Foot' walking itineraries. Alongside the appointments was of course a chance to network and catch-up with many of our fellow industry colleagues, and enjoy a glass of wine at the evening functions.

We've also been busy with preparations for our Extraordinary Western Australia Roadshow, which takes place in four venues around the UK from the 30th of June to the 3rd of July. We'd love to see as many of you there as possible, so head over to to register now - there's a chance to win a place on a famil to WA for all who attend, so a great incentive to come along!

Elsewhere, Mark had a very successful pre-ATE trip to Paris for some of our clients that we represent in Continental Europe, and we've all been busy preparing for ATE in Cairns, which I'm sure many of you are on route to as I type this. I hope you all have a very successful few days, and I'm sure Mark, Sandra and Christie will see lots of you there!

Next month Lee will be giving you a roundup of his recent trip to China with Orientis DMC and Air China, but until then, have a great month ahead.
